Declutter Day Tips 15

Get Your Clutter Madness under Control

Here are some handy tips on how to schedule a monthly declutter day session in your diary.

Select a Clutter Theme

Make your declutter session as fun as possible. Select a theme for the upcoming month. Your theme could be based around a location – cleaning your kitchen benchtops is a popular one, or getting rid of excess paper piling up in your study is usually another common area requiring attention.

If you plan on having a “heavy duty cleaning” theme, get all your equipment ready for your clean up session ie. bring out your trusty mop, cleaning bucket, cleaning supplies etc. Buy any special cleaning supplies in advance of time if your tasks include polishing or restoring old surfaces.

Before your scheduled monthly clean up day comes around, make a to list of all the things that will require organizing. If your theme is “cleaning the study”, your to do list may look something like:

Sort paperwork and place in your in-tray for filing;

Clear your office desk;

Vacuum the carpets;

Attend to any maintenance issues in your study, for example, buy printer cartridge or restock printer paper.

Make a date with yourself

Book an important appointment with yourself – set a date for your next declutter day session.

Decide on how many hours you can spare each month to reduce clutter in your home.

A couple of hours is an ideal length of time for a Clutter Control session to keep yourself motivated and energized to organize your home.

Save Money by Getting Organized

Who doesn’t like to save money? Taking action every month to reduce clutter helps you to save money each month. For example, you have fewer occasions to do last minute shopping on expensive items for your house, or your kitchen larder is organized in such a way that at any given time you know exactly what items you need to buy for your weekly grocery shop.

So let’s get organized today and schedule your next monthly declutter day.

So that you can enjoy the feel of a well organized house that has had a great declutter makeover!

Best Regards,
Debra
