Declutter Your Home By Utilizing Self Storage

Author: Simply Self Storage

If you are like a majority of other families these days, your home has a good deal of clutter in it. Beware of families who claim to have no clutter – they usually do, but are just better about hiding it! Instead of having your clutter take over your life, or instead of shoving your clutter away into an attic or closet, use a self storage unit to help declutter your home. How does clutter accumulate? You could spent a week each year cleaning out every closet and storage area within your home and yet six months later, you will already have more clutter to content with. Clutter accumulates because we do not live life in a frozen mode. Instead, because we live life in fast forward, we accumulate a lot of items from shopping and our offices and our activities and our children’s schools and as those items follow us home, they begin to pile up and give out homes cluttered appearance. Clutter can be quite overwhelming – your home can even reach a stage of seeming more than just cluttered and going over the line to downright messy. Instead of having to live in a messy home, where you are no longer comfortable and where you are ashamed to invite guests, start working towards a solution today. Self storage units are the perfect answer for families who have more possessions than they know what to do with! You can use a self storage unit to start decluttering your home today. The first step to take when you are decluttering your home is to go room by room and take every single item out of that room that does not belong there. Bring all of these items into one centralized and open space. If you can return an item to another room where it actually belongs, do so. But leave all items that have no place in your home within the pile that you have created. The next step to take is to clear out your closets and your attic. There may be items in those areas that you have not seen, used, or needed in years. You can added these boxes or loose items to the items you have already accumulated by cleaning out all of your rooms. Now that all of your potential clutter items are together, it’s time to start making important decisions. You can classify your items in one of three ways: garbage, store for later use, unpack for immediate use. Depending on your classification will affect what you end up taking to your self storage unit. How can you decide to throw something away? That’s easy. If you have not used an item in the past several years and cannot conceive of a reason to use it in the foreseeable future, it’s no longer necessary to keep. If someone else may find use from it, donate it to a charity. If not, toss it! Other reasons to throw away items can include if they are in very poor condition. If you have any items that are just absolutely falling apart, it’s time to say good bye and throw them away. Other items to throw away are those that are simply useless – receipts that are not needed for returns or tax purposes, programs to events you can’t even remember attending, or anything similar in nature. If you unpack an item for immediate use, you need to understand that immediate use does not include putting it to the side to be forgotten. It means that once the item is placed in the area of the home where it should be used, it actually will be used. Do not keep an item for immediate use that you, in fact, are unsure if it will be used. Otherwise, you’ll just be building your clutter back up. For everything else that has not been thrown or given away or put into use, you can repackage it to take to your self storage unit. Remember to pack these items in an orderly fashion, keeping all related items together and carefully labeling your boxes so you can easily put your hands on these items in the future as soon as you need them. Finally, remember that clutter is continual. You should understand that your first trip to your self storage unit will not be your last. Instead, you may be heavily reliant on your self storage unit in the future to help keep your home decluttered.
